MGB deputize Pagadian City Chief of Police in the implementation of CDO

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (July1, 2015-PNA) – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) deputized the Pagadian City Police Chief Supt. Glenn M. Dulawan to implement Environmental Laws within his area of responsibilities.

Supt Dulawan was deputized by MGB before the implementation last Friday of Cease and Desists Order (CDO) jointly signed by the MGB and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) against mining operations within the Indigenous Peoples (IP) ancestral domain areas in this city and province.

Dulawan provided police security escort from the Provincial Public Safety Company and city police to the MGB and NCIP personnel to the mining sited in the stoppage and closure of 22 holes of illegal mining operations conducted by the small scale mining operators.

Dulawan expressed his support and assured the full implementation of the CDO against illegal mining operations in Barangays Deborok and Lourdes in this city.

Police prove negligence caused by fire against the suspect

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur --- The Pagadian City Police has to prove of negligence against the suspect that causes more than 1,500 houses razed by fire Monday last week in the two coastal Barangays of this city.

City Police and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) officials in a press conference identified the house owner where the fire originated as Nuraida Sulani, 24 of Campo Islam, Barangay Santiago.

Pagadian City Chief of Police Supt. Glenn Dulawan in the initial investigation said Nuraida is an ambulant spices vendor of Agora Public Market. She wakes up early every 4:00 a.m. to cook for their breakfast using their dirty kitchen inside their house.

Nuraida in her affidavit claimed that she poured water to their dirty kitchen to make it sure it will not be rekindled before leaving their house padlocked.

Dulawan said 3 witnesses have executed their affidavit and collaborated their statement that the fire started at the kitchen of the house of their neighbor Nuraida.

The witnesses have also stated that the house of Nuraida was padlocked and no one left inside during the fire incident, Dulawan said.

Dulawan disclosed that the possible filing of criminal charges against the suspect if found guilty of negligence.

BFP City Fire Marshall Senior Inspector Reggy Olmido said that they will also file arson case against the suspect if found probable cause against the suspect.


Olmido said the fire started at 12:11 noon and was declared general alarm at 1:00 p.m. that lasted more than 4 hours leaving more or less Php20 million property damaged affecting more than 2,000 families homeless along the coastal barangays of Santiago and San Pedro of this city. (By JC)
