PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Feb. 25 (PNA) -- The four-day Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Athletic Association (ZPRAA) 2015 reeled off Wednesday with parade and street dancing competition in this city.

The outdoor opening events was followed by a program at the gymnasium with Governor Antonio Cerilles as the keynote speaker.

Cerilles challenged the local government and Department of Education (DepEd) officials to review and strengthen their respective sports programs to excel in the Palarong Pambansa.


Cerilles made the challenge as he noted the region did not earn a single medal during the last Palarong Pambansa.

He offered the sports facilities of this province to serve as the venue of training of athletes who will see action in the national athletic competition.

The four-day athletic event ends Saturday, February 28. It is being held at the 66-hectare provincial government center in Barangay Dai, this city.

Mayor Romeo Pulmones welcomed the more than 5,000 athletic delegates participating in the four-day athletic competition.


The participating delegates are from the cities of Dapitan, Dipolog, Isabela, Pagadian, and Zamboanga and the provinces of Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga Sibugay.

The ZPRAA 2015 is anchored on the theme: “Zampen Go for Unity and Solidarity for Excellence.”


Meanwhile, Supt. Glenn Dulawan, local police chief, said security measures are in place to ensure the protection of the athletic delegates during the four-day competition. (PNA)

Police, military ready ZPRAA security plan

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Feb. 20 (PNA) -- Security authorities have prohibited the carrying of backpacks in all the games’ venue of the four-day Zamboanga Peninsula Athletic Association (ZPRAA) 2015 meet in this city.

This was announced Friday by Supt. Glenn Dulawan, citing his office in coordination with the Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion have readied security plans to ensure the peaceful and orderly holding of ZPRAA here.

The ZPRAA, which will see the participation of at least 5,000 athletic delegates, starts February 25 and ends on February 28 in this city.

Dulawan said the joint police-military security force will be augmented by the Provincial Public Safety Company as well as policemen of this province’s 26 municipalities during the conduct of the ZPRAA.

Dulawan said they will also put up a police assistance center at the ZPRAA games’ venue and in the city proper for swift response to any emergency that may arise.

He appealed to the public to cooperate with them since checkpoints will also be established in different parts of this city.(PNA)

Crime group leader slain in Pagadian City; businesswoman wounded




PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Feb. 12 (PNA) -- A suspected crime group leader was killed while a businesswoman was injured in a shooting incident perpetrated by riding-in-tandem gunmen in this city, a police official disclosed Thursday.

Supt. Glenn Dulawan, local police chief, identified the fatality as Arnel Hasim, 33, a resident of Barangay Balangasan, this city.

Wounded was Bernadeth Ybañez, 26, a businesswoman and a resident of Bagumbang, Bonifacio, Misamis Occidental.

Dulawan said investigation showed Hasim was at a vulcanizing shop when shot by one of two men riding tandem in a motorcycle that passed by around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday along Consolacion Street, Barangay Sto. Niño, this city.

He said Ybañez was hit by stray bullet while she was also at the vulcanizing shop waiting for the tire of her motorcycle to be mended.

Dulawan disclosed that Hasim is allegedly the leader of crime group known as the “Tampipi group” based in the nearby province of Zamboanga Sibugay.

He said Hasim has a standing warrant of arrest for the crime of frustrated murder.

He further disclosed the motive could be related to family feud since the relatives of Hasim are in a fight against another family in the town of Malangas, Zamboanga Sibugay. (PNA)

8,100ml of blood donated to Red Cross Pagadian City in Bloodletting




PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (Fe. 5, 2015-) – A total of 1,800 milliliter or 18 bags of blood donated to Philippine National Red Cross during the Bloodletting Wednesday afternoon.

The bloodletting was jointly conducted by the City Police and the army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion of the 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division at the City Plaza Covered Court following the 4th day of the week-long celebration of the 2nd World Interfaith Harmony Week (WIHW) in Pagadian City.

The WIHW celebrated every February 1-7 as mandated in the RA 10525 was approved on April 23 2013.

This year theme: "Strengthening Love for God and Love One other: A celebration of hope for Life, Peace and Solidarity"

Philippine National Red Cross Pagadian City-Zamboanga del Sur Council Administrator Hildaliza F. Muñoz expressed her gratitude to the Moral Recovery Program Movement for spearheading the weeklong celebration of the WIHW and also to the members of the City Police and 53rd IB for choosing bloodletting as part of their activities.
