PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Feb. 25 (PNA) -- The four-day Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Athletic Association (ZPRAA) 2015 reeled off Wednesday with parade and street dancing competition in this city.

The outdoor opening events was followed by a program at the gymnasium with Governor Antonio Cerilles as the keynote speaker.

Cerilles challenged the local government and Department of Education (DepEd) officials to review and strengthen their respective sports programs to excel in the Palarong Pambansa.

Cerilles made the challenge as he noted the region did not earn a single medal during the last Palarong Pambansa.

He offered the sports facilities of this province to serve as the venue of training of athletes who will see action in the national athletic competition.

The four-day athletic event ends Saturday, February 28. It is being held at the 66-hectare provincial government center in Barangay Dai, this city.

Mayor Romeo Pulmones welcomed the more than 5,000 athletic delegates participating in the four-day athletic competition.

The participating delegates are from the cities of Dapitan, Dipolog, Isabela, Pagadian, and Zamboanga and the provinces of Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga Sibugay.

The ZPRAA 2015 is anchored on the theme: “Zampen Go for Unity and Solidarity for Excellence.”

Meanwhile, Supt. Glenn Dulawan, local police chief, said security measures are in place to ensure the protection of the athletic delegates during the four-day competition. (PNA)
