Police, military on red alert vs bomb threats

Police and military authorities in Pagadian City and Zamboanga del Sur have been on red alert since last week following receipt of a text message that bombing will take place in some parts of Mindanao.

City Councilor Ernesto Mondarte on Friday (August 29) said that the bomb threats had been confirmed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, adding that local authorities had also received a similar threat before a blast in Cotabato City last week.

Mondarte said that the matter had also been discussed during the Peace and Order Council meeting to ramp up efforts and precautionary measures against such terrorist acts.

Recently, the City Disaster Risk Reduction Council, together with the local police and military, conducted a bomb awareness information campaign among hotels and pension houses in the city including bus terminals, public markets, and shopping malls.

Earlier in the day, the info dissemination drive was similarly held in government offices and schools.

The police also carried out random check points along entry and exit roads of the city, including other strategic areas of the province. - 9News Online, from a report by Jong Cadion

The Motorcycle Mounted Cops with their newly issued vehicle
August 19, 2014-The Local Government Unit of Pagadian issued ten brand new motorcycles to Pagadian City Police Station. This is in support to the program of this station to make the personnel highly mobile in patrolling the city streets. It was observed based on statistics that most crimes in the city were perpetuated by criminals utilizing single motorcycle as a form of mobility. To address this problem, Councilor Ernesto Mondarte, Chairman on Peace and Security Committee proposed to equip the police with highly mobile, fuel and cost efficient vehicle to match that of the criminals which Mayor Romeo Pulmones readily supported.
