PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (Dec. 12, 2014) –- The police, in coordination with the military, has tightened security in the entire province especially in all bus terminals to ensure the safety of the riding public.
Senior Supt. Sofronio
Ecaldre, provincial police director, said Friday that he has also ordered all
the police stations to conduct random checkpoints along the highway and within
the boundaries of this province with Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental,
Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga Sibugay.
Ecaldre’s order came
after the bus bombing incident that killed 11 people including five students
and injured 42 others on Tuesday in Maramag, Bukidnon.
Each of the 26 towns
and the lone component city of this province has bus terminals catering to
travelers from and to this province.
The province is
mainly served by a fleet of buses owned by the Rural Transit Mindanao, Inc.
(RTMI) that also owns the bus where a bomb exploded on Tuesday.
Ecaldre ordered his
personnel to strictly inspect baggage and cargoes at the bus terminals.
Meanwhile, Ecaldre
disclosed that the unattended baggage the explosive ordnance demolition (EOD)
personnel checked Thursday afternoon in this city was negative of explosive.
He said the contents
of the baggage, which was found inside the comfort room of this city bus
terminal, turned out to be an electrical transformer, carpentry tool and
personal belongings.
