PAGADIAN
CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Feb. 25 (PNA) -- The four-day Zamboanga Peninsula
Regional Athletic Association (ZPRAA) 2015 reeled off Wednesday with parade and
street dancing competition in this city.
The
outdoor opening events was followed by a program at the gymnasium with Governor
Antonio Cerilles as the keynote speaker.
Cerilles
challenged the local government and Department of Education (DepEd) officials
to review and strengthen their respective sports programs to excel in the
Palarong Pambansa.
Cerilles
made the challenge as he noted the region did not earn a single medal during
the last Palarong Pambansa.
He
offered the sports facilities of this province to serve as the venue of
training of athletes who will see action in the national athletic competition.
The
four-day athletic event ends Saturday, February 28. It is being held at the
66-hectare provincial government center in Barangay Dai, this city.
Mayor
Romeo Pulmones welcomed the more than 5,000 athletic delegates participating in
the four-day athletic competition.
The
participating delegates are from the cities of Dapitan, Dipolog, Isabela,
Pagadian, and Zamboanga and the provinces of Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del
Norte and Zamboanga Sibugay.
The
ZPRAA 2015 is anchored on the theme: “Zampen Go for Unity and Solidarity for
Excellence.”
Meanwhile,
Supt. Glenn Dulawan, local police chief, said security measures are in place to
ensure the protection of the athletic delegates during the four-day
